A Brief History of Curtis Brown
Curtis Brown, founded by Albert Curtis Brown in 1899, is one of the world’s leading literary and talent agencies.
We represent authors, playwrights, film and television writers and directors, theatre directors and designers, television and radio presenters and actors.
We are not only a literary and talent agency. Innovative subsidiary companies have been formed, which include:
Cuba Pictures was founded in 2008 by Nick Marston and is the film and television production arm of the agency. In April 2016, BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, extended their relationship with Curtis Brown and Cuba Pictures by taking 10% shareholding in Original Talent Ltd, a new parent company, created to house Curtis Brown, Cuba Pictures, Conville & Walsh and Curtis Brown Creative.
Curtis Brown Creative was formed in 2011 and is chaired by Jonny Geller and managed and curated by Anna Davis. In a very short time, it has expanded to deliver 3 and 6 month courses as well as online courses and summer schools. In just 5 years, over 20 graduates have gone on to secure major publishing deals.
In 2008, we joined forces in a co-agency venture with one of the biggest agencies in US, ICM, to represent their authors worldwide excluding America.
The company is led by joint CEOs Jonny Geller and Ben Hall under the chairmanship of Jonathan Lloyd. Nick Marston (Chairman, Media) Sarah Spear (Managing Director, Talent) and Jacquie Drewe (Chair, Presenters) comprise the main board. Over 100 members of staff operate from our offices on Haymarket in central London.
The Original Talent Ltd board consists of CEOs Jonny Geller and Ben Hall, alongside Nick Marston, Sarah Spear and Finance Director Simon Flamank.
