Do you have a dream to be a model – a modelling dream?
Is it an out of reach fantasy?
If you had more support and confidence would you give it a go?
It’s natural that many youngsters are attracted to the life of a model as they are growing up. All those times you put on the grownups clothes and shoes and ‘borrowed’ makeup to experiment with. All a part of exploring the world and copying the examples we see around us as we develop. Sometimes the wish doesn’t leave or comes back into your mind as you reach different phases of life. Any dream, even a modelling dream is a lovely thing to have. The body we have been given is our vehicle through life and what better than to use it in this way – show it off and have it adorned, photographed and paraded on the catwalk. Is it self absorbing or shallow? Maybe, but then we don’t get to choose the unique material we each have been given do we? Of course how we look after our body, treat it and view it has a influence too.
There are as many different ways of contributing in this world as there are individuals and being a model seems to have been a role I was meant to play – incredibly! One I’ve had on and off since 1949 when I was discovered at 21 years old. I continue to enjoy it immensely and even have an entry in the Guinness Book of Records as The Oldest Professional Model in the world. What’s not to like? Dressing up, being pampered, travelling and wonderful people – so many fabulous creatives and artists. It suits me for as long as I’m needed and the young girl in me is happy.
What about you? Do you have a dream, a modelling dream – it’s never too late for dreams to come true. Do let me know your dreams and the dreams that have come true for you in the comments below as I’d love to hear.
In my next Daphne News – Types of Models, coming out next week, I’m going to discuss how open and diverse the modelling world is – is there a place for you?

Daphne Selfe you are an absolute inspiration and breaking down barriers about beauty and age. You are adorable. Through my admiration for you, I decided last year to lose weight (now 2 stone lighter) and modernise myself. thank you
This is wonderful news Daphne, well done you on all the hard work and modernising!

How amazing Louise! You’re such a great example that there is a place for us all and what enjoyment and satisfaction there can be found by embracing ourselves fully. #beyourownselfe x
Daphne, you are my idol. I am so inspired by you. I, too, am a mature model (almost 60) and would like to continue to do so as long as I can. What advice and guidance do you have about finding venues for mature models?
Dear Li,
You ask what advice can I give you – keep doing what you’re doing and don’t even think about your age (it’s just a number). As you are already modelling and enjoying just keep going. I’m not sure what you mean about finding venues exactly. Make sure your Agent deals with Classic Models and is a good Agent in this category. If you are looking for opportunities yourself keep your eyes and ears open for things happening where you might be able to help.
Wishing you all the best.
Daphne
Hi Daphne! You really inspire me to become a model 😍 I’m 21 years old and I really want to become a model since I was a child but I only keep it to myself because I’m afraid of what other people would say 🙁 I love wearing beautiful outfits I love watching fashion shows. It is really my dream to walk on a runway. I hope you can help me🙏
Hello Chelsea,
Thank you for commenting and this is something that is not uncommon that dreams are kept private and close. This in itself is not a problem but I do think it’s a sign that confidence needs to be worked on. Once you have confidence you might still keep things private but not because you are worried about what others might say or if they may judge you. I can help you with my online courses – this is the reason that I made them so I can share my knowledge, skills and experience. Plus there is plenty of free advice on the Daphne News Blog Posts: https://www.daphneselfe.com/blog/

Keep wearing beautiful clothes and going for your dreams.
Best wishes Daphne
